Recycle

Recycling Depot

Open Fridays & Saturdays 10am-2pm

Objective: To handle recyclables and refundable items in order to minimize the impact on the environment.

Because GIRR is run by volunteers and a small regular staff, it is appreciated if recyclables can be brought to the Recycling Depot after being cleaned and sorted! This is especially true for soap, detergent or cleanser containers which contain substances that can harm our volunteers and staff when inhaled or when they come into contact with eyes and skin.

The following items are accepted at the Recycling Depot:

Refundables

Most refundables are accepted. This includes non-alcoholic items like pop cans, plastic pop bottles (all sizes labels on), tetra packs for juices (all sizes), gable tops (e.g. Orange juice), juice tins (e.g. V8 tins), plastic water bottles, glass juice bottles (labels on) and glass milk bottles. Alcoholic containers like beer cans, beer bottles, liquor bottles and wine bottles are also accepted.

Non-Refundables

  • Paper: Most paper products can be handled. Cardboard should be flattened
  • Plastics: GIRR can handle a range of hard plastics such as plastic milk jugs, yogurt-type containers and crinkly plastics
  • Soap, detergent or cleanser containers including bleach, dish soap, powdered or liquid cleansers (Please clean these!)
  • Glass: All glass food containers (lids removed). Window glass is not accepted
  • Tin: Tin cans are accepted, labels off - they do not need to be flattened
  • Aluminum: Aluminum cans, aluminum trays and aluminum foil wrap are accepted. Aluminum gutters and downspouts can be handled if they are small enough to fit in our crusher (pieces less than a foot in length). It may be possible to find a new home for your large pieces of aluminum downspouts and gutters through the redirectory
